21. Miniature Story Books
Bet you have stories you never thought of for a book! Small storybooks are great to delight a friend, entertain a child or keep as a memory of an cherished event. They can easily be made with stamps, collage, decorative paper and the artist’s unique design.
22. Nature Prints
This variation on the pamphlet book structure has interesting flaps, envelopes and hidden openings. It contains prints of natural elements such as leaves, pods, seeds, twigs, flowers, fruit rinds and rocks. The prints that we make in a variety of ways will become the subject of our books.
23. Pamphlets - 7 Sewn Pamphlets
In this class, students will make seven unique pamphlets to take home., keeping in mind that there are as many ways to make a pamphlet as there are uses – whether for writing, poetry, a book edition, a journal, work you print on letterpress or a double-edged story.
24. Pop Ups
One way to add a 3D element to your books is to make it with pop-ups. In this class, you make a lot of pop-ups to take home plus investigate some different ways to use them. We cover some very basic ways to make pop-ups plus look at how to combine them accordions as well as fold-over books.
25. Photo Album - The Small but Simple Elegant Photo Book
Make a simple but elegant photo book in just a few hours. You can include a brass frame on top for a special photo and use a beautiful ribbon to tie it off. Any decorative paper may be used, or you can make your own decorative paper to use as well.
26. Portfolio of Brochures
This is a great class for a graphic artist or someone who wants to learn more books from single sheets of paper. Creative folds lead to several brochures which all fit into a portfolio which we make from scratch.
27. Shereen’s Heart Shaped Book
Shereen LaPlantz generously shared her knowledge and her heart with everyone she came in contact with. She taught this heart-shaped book with its sewn signatures, which she may well have invented.
28. Skeletons for Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos)
Make skeletons and scenes for Day of the Dead with papier maché and wire. We will then design small box scenes for them. There are a number of different crafts associated with Day of the Dead and cj often teaches several.
29. Tunnel Books
Tunnel Books are a fascinating and popular form of book with a long history. They were once referred to as “peep show books”, The viewer looks through a hole or window to see the pictures on the rest of the pages. It is a unique way of layering images providing a 3D effect. Text can be utilized on the accordion sides, if desired.
30. Valentines
There’s nothing like sitting down with a wealth of materials and making cards or books. Valentine’s Day provides a fun, creative way to experiment with different techniques, new materials and unusual folds to make lots of valentines to share with family and friends.
